BACH  Project Introduction

This website is about the activities, work and thoughts of the Berkeley Archaeologists at Çatalhöyük – the BACH team. The focus of our excavation is the investigation of the detailed life-history of the architectural units (buildings). Part of this project comprises also our investigation of the construction materials and techniques of the Neolithic houses at Çatalhöyük, through experimental replication.

The project director (Dr. Ruth Tringham) and field director (Dr. Mirjana Stevanovic) had previously created innovative strategies for carrying our similar investigations of Neolithic houses in Yugoslavia, and for this reason were invited to start a project at Çatalhöyük. In addition to expertise in architectural investigation, the BACH team brings to the Çatalhöyük project an enthusiasm for, and experience expertise in the digitally rendered media-rich record of the excavation process. We also participate actively in the public outreach of the Çatalhöyük project.
